Bobita Akhter, a Bangladeshi film actress, was born on July 30, 1953, in Bagerhat, Pakistan. She was primarily named Farida Akhtar Poppy. Her mother, Jahan Ara Begum Jahan Ara Begum is a Pakistani drama that started >> Read More... , was a doctor, whereas her father, Nizamuddin Ataub, was a government officer. She earlier studied at Dawood Public School, Jessore, and later at Gloria School. She was married to Iftekharul Alam, who died when their son, Anik, was three years old.

Bobita debuted in the film Songsar, where she played Subarna, the daughter of Razzaq and Shuchanda. She was featured in a television drama, Kalam. She changed her name from Farida to Bobita when she acted in the movie "Jalte Suraj ki Niche '' by Zaheer Raihan. Her notable films include Shukhe Thako, Taka Anna Pai, Noyon Moni, Manusher Mon, Pich Dhala Path, Jonmo Theke Jolchi, and Anarkoli. After she gained attention and fame, Satyajit Ray cast her in Ashani Sanket, a film based on the 1943 Bengal Famine, where she played the lead role of Ananga. This movie was awarded the Golden Bear Prize at the 23rd Berlin Film Festival in 1973.

She was featured in other films Dhire Bohe Meghna(1973), Golapi Ekhon Trainey (1978), Arunodoyer Agnishakkhi(1972), Dahan(1986), and Dipu Number Two(1996).

She has her own film production house "Babita Movies." She has produced films including Lottery, Lady Smuggler, Agomon, Ful Shojja, and Poka Makorer Ghor Bosoti.

Bobita consecutively won three National Film Awards The National Film Awards gets presented every year >> Read More... for Best Actress for three years, 1975, 1976, and 1977, for Bandi Theke Begum, Noyonmoni, and Basundhara, respectively. She won the National Film Award for Best Producer for the film Poka Makorer Ghor Bosoti in 1996. She was awarded the National Film Award for Best Supporting Role Actress for the movie Hason Raja. The Bangla Film Journalist Association awarded her the Best Actress Award for Satyajit Ray's Ashani Sanket in 1993. She is also the goodwill ambassador at Distressed Children & Infants International.
