She was born in Bandel, Hooghly, West Bengal. She began her career in the acting field along with Bishwarupa and Rammohan Mancha. She regularly worked in theatre in Kolkata. Surya Trishna was her first film in which she played a supporting role. She got her first lead role in 1979 in the movie Krishna Sudama. She has appeared in Hindi, Bengali, and Bhojpuri films. She played roles in numerous movies, including Dawedaar (1982), Ashleelotar Daye (1983), Rashifal (1984), Nishantay (1985), Baidurya Rahasya (1985), Bidrohi (1987), Pratibha (1987), and many more.
