Caroline Aragon, Vince Jolivette, and Michael Mendelsohn produced the film with Rabbit Bandini Productions and Patriot Pictures. myCinema distributed the film. Bruce Thierry Cheung cranked the camera, and Curtis Clayton, Joe Murphy, and Matt Diezel edited the film. The film features James Franco, Megan Fox, Seth Rogen, Joey King, Melody Veronica Vetter Cole, Cadence Clara Vetter Cole, Jacki Weaver, Dave Franco, Craig Robinson, Gus Van Sant, Danny McBride, Mike Starr, Nick Buda, Tyler Danna, Mia Serafino, Jason Fox, Horatio Sanz, Ryan Moody, Chris Messina, Kevin Makely, Mino Mackic, Thomas Nicholas, Derek Waters, Nanghana, Keegan Allen, Steve Erickson, Jacob Loeb, Nina Ljeti, Scott Haze, Una Jensen, Aaron Garcia Silverman, Tim Blake Nelson, Wim Wenders, Alberto Barbera, Thaila Ayala, Will Ferrell, Stewart Strauss, and Jamie Costa.

Plot

Vikar went to Los Angeles. There he starts work at Paramount Studios. At the same time, he is suspected of Tate—LaBianca murders. Dolly introduced him to Studios. Dolly is well known Editor, and she sees the potential for an editor in Vikar. She then introduces him to Viking Man. Viking Man is the studio executive. They both went to a party, where Vikar saw actress Soledad Paladin. He feels like he has seen her somewhere. As Vikar is a talented editor, he was given the job of editing Soledad's film by producer Rondell. Vikar gets to know a lot about the industry. He becomes fascinated by the idea of a "secret movie.” Vikar journey in the industry starts. What will happen to Vikar? Does he able to survive in it? What is the connection between him and Soledad? The rest of the story deals with it.

Star Performance

James Franco played Vikar. He did a great job to re-create the book version of Vikar. To gain glamour and beauty, Megan Fox played Soledad Paladin. The romance between James and Megan was terrible in the film. James Franco played the role of Viking. He did a great job but not similar to the book version. Jacki Weaver did a great job of playing Dolly. All the other actors were as average as the main lead actors.

Analysis

The film was not as good as expected. The storyline is boring. The dialogues were poorly framed. The sound effects were average. The tragic romance between them is unnecessary in the film. The film has unnecessary nudity. The film had great music and background. The old movie references were excellent and funny. The film has many extreme scenes which could be avoided. The narration in the movie was the worst. The weirdness of the actors was not cringe to the audience. It shines in the movie. The film is based on the book of the same name. It is not a good remake of the book. Those who had read the book feel disappointed with the film. The film has lost the charm of the story of the novel. It has a fresh new concept compared to other films of James Franco, but not as good as his other films.
