Thalainagaram is a Tamil language TV show that airs on the channel Thanthi TV, a Tamil news channel. The programme runs for half an hour every day from 12 pm to 12:30 pm. Thalainagaram, when translated, means Capital. The capital city of Tamil Nadu is Chennai. The show features the news that happens in Chennai. Limiting the news occurrences only to a city might seem like there won’t be much to talk about. It is quite contrary to it. Chennai is a metropolitan city with a population of over one crore. The public had a lot of problems that they expect the government to address. Thalainagaram features the problems of the public.
It is especially devoted to shedding light on the problems the citizens of Chennai face, be it housing, water, electricity, petty thefts, roads, schools, or anything that is considered a ‘problem’, the show features it, with the aim that it would reach the government. The show plays a mediator to the public and the government, bringing the public issues to the attention of the government. The reporter of the show talks about the problem that needs to be addressed, and the pictures, videos, statements by the public relating to the issue will be displayed. Sometimes interviews of the locals at the site and that of the concerned political leaders will also be featured.
