Vettai is a crime thriller that features a team of Tamilian Singapore police solving cold cases, i.e., the cases that couldn't be solved and are left open.

These cases involve the Indian community and immigrants. They fight for the migrant Indians and NRIs who can’t fight for themselves. They solve murder cases, kidnappings, sexual assaults, corporate espionage and similar cases. The team consists of six members, Nantha, Seelan, Mugi, Prakash, Shanmugam (Shan), and Radha. Nantha is paired with Seelan. Nantha is a handsome bachelor who does not like relationships. Seelan is the only married person on the team. He has a lovely daughter who he cares for deeply and wakes up every day with the aim of giving her a good life. They both don’t always see eye to eye, but when it comes to finding a criminal, they put their best foot forward. Mugi and Prakash are partners. Mugi did a diploma, and Prakash is a graduate.

Mugi doesn’t always follow protocol and does things as he sees fit. Prakash always follows the rules, and this creates a rift between the partners. Shan and Radha are best friends. They are the most fun of the six members. Radha has a crush on Nantha, but he doesn’t pay heed to her. Shan is in love with the in-house criminologist, Gina. Even though the six of them put work before anything else, some of their personal issues creep into their ability to perform their task efficiently.

During the course of the series, both their bonds and lives will be in danger. The series was critically acclaimed on national television. It has received the awards of Best Opening Title and Most Popular Series in the Pradhana Vizha Awards 2011. Pradhana Vizha is Vasantham’s annual award show. In the same year, Shabir has won the title of Best Actor.
