Thaana Yaana is a travel and lifestyle show that airs on DD Chandana. The channel is a part of the Doordarshan Network and caters to the entertainment of Kannada speaking people. The show is aired as a part of the late night programming, at 10:30 pm.
Thaana Yaana explores the state of Karnataka and the various sights that it has to offer. The show was created to make people aware of the beautiful places and things Karnataka has to offer but instead of just talking about the state and its places, the show takes a different approach – it talks about them from the perspective of a tourist or a visitor that has come to the state, so that the viewers can relate to it more. Everything that a visitor/tourist would need – expenses, connectivity, food, and lifestyle -- is discussed on the show.
The show also tells why the viewers should visit a particular place and the reason for which it is unique. The show also talks to locals of the place to get a better understanding of the place and the surrounding areas. Thaana Yaana also serves as an entertainment program, where you can learn about the various things of interest that Karnataka has to offer. The show has travelled to all kinds of places – tourist hotspots, nature camps, historical sights and the culturally important cities like Bengaluru and Udupi.
The show first travelled to Shivamoga (now renamed as Shivamogga), which is often regarded as the cultural capital of Karnataka. The city has some of the finest natural beauty to offer. Shivamoga is home to an elephant camp and also a waterfall – Shimoga. The Shimoga waterfall is one of the most breath-taking waterfalls you’ll find in India. The area is also home to the village of Mattur, the only village that still uses Sanskrit. Next, the show went to Sitanadi. Sitanadi houses river rafting, for adventurous people and nature camp, for people who’d want to get closer to the nature.
Besides the natural wonders of Karnataka, the show also went to places of historical importance like the Chitradurga fort. The fort is associated with Mahabharata as well as the Chalukya Empire. The fort is famous for the seven hills surrounding it and the seven layers of security that make it impenetrable.
These hills are the reason the fort still stands today. After this, the show has also travelled to Chikmagalur, which is also known as “the home of coffee” in India. The first seeds of coffee were sowed 350 years ago, which has led to a booming industry and business of the same in the area. The coffee estates here are beautiful, and the owners have turned the same very tourist friendly. You can visit and stay there to enjoy the beautiful sights it has to offer and also, all there is about coffee. These are just few places among the many places that the show has travelled., For anyone interested in visiting Karnataka, the show is a must watch.
