Lakshmi Jhansiya Magalu is an Indian period historical show in the Kannada language. Lakshmi Jhansiya Magalu narrates the story of the epic Queen of Jhansi, a kingdom in medieval India. The queen is known as one of the major figures that lead the Indian Rebellion of 1857 which was against the tyrannical rule of the British on India. She soon became the symbol of resistance to the British Raj for Indian nationalists and the feminist movement in India. She is considered a role model for many Indian women. The show depicts her struggle from the point of her birth in the year 1828 in the town of Varanasi into a Marathi Karhade Brahmin family. Her birth name was Manikarnika Tambe and was lovingly called Manu. She was an extremely well-read woman who was an ace sword fighter as well as a horse rider.
She was named Lakshmibai after the Hindu goddess Lakshmi for her bravado. She fought the British while tying her toddler son to her back. This is the most popular symbol in which her name is attached to. The show depicts all this in a sophisticated way. The show featured on the popular Kannada language channel called Udaya TV. The show became popular among locals who always wanted to know more about the life of Manikarnika or Rani Lakshmibai.
