Plot

In the past, a girl group named Girls5Eva hit only one record during the early 2000s. The four women who were a part of the group, Dawn, Wickie, Summer and Gloria, decide to reunite again to give their dreams one more shot. The only difference this time is that now they are middle-aged women and will have to find a balance between their dreams and their family, children and jobs. The women hop from hotel to hotel with the help of a van and take on whatever gig they get. Along with this common struggle to make a name for their girl group, the four women also have their struggles and challenges that they must overcome. Dawn for instance, is pregnant with a child. This child would be her second child. Gloria, on the other hand, is a homosexual and is in her promiscuous phase as she is trying to make up for her lack of experience by hooking up with many women. Wickie is learning to be selfless and Summer is trying to be an independent woman who can support herself without a man.

Star Performance

Renee Elise Goldsberry has performed very well as the diva of the group, and her character stands out. Richard Kind’s performance was also brilliant that it felt like his scenes were too few.

Analysis

The songs in this season are very catchy. The scripting is clever, with great jokes that make this season extraordinarily entertaining and fun to watch. There is a perfect balance of humour and emotion in the film. The comedy in this web series is consistently hilarious and there is an abundance of gags, that it could easily be one of the funniest shows streaming. However, the season was too brief and six episodes were too few, this season could have easily had a few more episodes.
