Mahan is a mythological Tamil TV series that intends to showcase the life histories of various saints of India. The serial is getting aired in Star Vijay from Monday to Friday at 6.30 PM. The series started its run from 2nd August of 2010.
The serial covers the birth, sainthood offerings and teachings of the saints like Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Ragavendra, Ramana Maharishi, KanchiParamacharya, Vallalar, AathiShankarar, Nagoor Baba,
along with others. The first episode of the serial starts by portraying the incidents happened in the life of Shri Ragavendra. The saint was an ardent Hindu saint who proposed the Advaita philosophy. He born in the year of 1595 at VenkannaBhatta to Thimanna and Gopikamba. His actual name was Venkatanathan. In the year of 1614, he adopted sanyasa of the sainthood and changed his name to Raghavendra. He became the head of the mutt after his predecessor Sudheendra. He preached the philosophy of Advaita travelling all over the South India. The saint attained his JeevaSamathi in the year 1671 after promising his disciples that he'd stay as a spirit. The TV serial covers his early life, marriage, transformation and his saint hood.
Interestingly as an ardent devotee of Raghavendra, Superstar Rajnikanth visited the sets of the serial to appreciate the actor Dinesh who dons the role of Sri Raghavendra. Needless to say, that Superstar himself donned the role of the saint in one of his movies.
