Filmfare Awards South is the South Indian segment of the annual Filmfare Awards, presented by the Filmfare magazine of The Times Group, which is a ceremony honoring the winners and nominees of the best of both artistic and technical excellence of professionals of South Indian cinema. The 66th edition of this award show was held on 21st December 2019 in Chennai at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The Awards show was premiered on 26th January 2020 on Star Suvarna channel at 3:00 pm (IST). The awards were first given in the year 1953, and the ceremony used to be held along with the Bollywood Filmfare Awards, but later, a distinctive ceremony was started to be conducted. This show is also considered to be the Oscars of the South and is viewed as a prestigious award show.
One of the popular on-screen pair in Tollywood, Sundeep Kishan, and Regina Cassandra hosted this award show. This talented pair had done three movies together and their loveable chemistry was appreciated by the viewers and audience of the award show. The most awaited event witnessed star celebrities from Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam cinema. The ‘Best Actor’ award was bagged by Yash for playing the role of Raja Krishnappa Bairya in the movie K.G.F and the award for ‘Best Actress’ was given to Manvitha Kamath for the role of Punarvasu in the movie Tagaru. The award for the ‘Best Director’ went to Mansore for directing the beautiful movie Nathicharami.
The Awards show even had an exclusive before the show red carpet event. Many stars, singers, actors, producers, and other working professionals from the South Indian film industry showcased their fancy and lush outfits and striking the most clickable poses. They were also interviewed by the paparazzi present on the red carpet. It was an affair of talent, joy, and of course, The Black Lady, representing the history and credit of Filmfare.
