The Congress Teasers, Trailers & Video Songs
The Congress is a French-Israeli film that blends live-action and animation together to form a psychedelic movie like no other. Ari Folman directed the movie based on the book 'The Futurological Congress' by Stanislaw Lem. Robin Wright stars as herself in this sci-fi drama as an aging actress who sells her digital image in exchange for a considerable amount of money to help her sick son. The trailer starts off in the real world, introducing the story line until the point she gets scanned and preserved as a digital avatar. The clips depict her struggles to admit defeat and give her character away for a few wads of cash.
The next half takes place in the virtual world, years later, created by a hallucinogenic drug that has everyone addicted. The animation and graphics are quirky and bizarre which adds to its appeal. The story is complicated to understand due to the sudden shifts, but it is oddly endearing. Though the plot’s ideas are from the book, it does not follow it to the fault. Folman changed it to suit his view of the entertainment hierarchy. The film received positive reviews. Though the narrative was lacking, the captivating visualization of the animated world, the compelling and thought-provoking concept, and the exceptional performance of Wright made the movie an absolute delight to watch.
