Plot: Brahmana is a story of a disinterested Brahman boy born in an orthodox Brahman family. Basavanna, portrayed by Upendra, is born in a family of Brahman priests. Since generations, they are responsible for caretaking and management of the Lord Shiva temple. The family, since its ancestral times, has been taking care of the temple. The head priest is blessed with a child, Basavanna, who is completely contrary to what the family’s legacy is. He is not at all interested in what rituals they follow and does not want to get into his father’s shoes. All goes well until his father dies. Basavanna is obligated to take the head priest’s position. Soon enough things start taking a wild turn. He is attacked and saves his life in a clever way. The story further goes on to tell about why he was attacked and what turns him into a savior.
Analysis: Overall, the movie is a decent depiction of the script. The first half wherein Basavanna’s character is shown to be disinterested and involved in all worldly affairs. It is much more interesting and gives input of the family. The movie has some wild and unexpected turns wherein Basavanna is a RAW agent, and all of it is shown in the second half. This makes the second half monotonous with unnecessary songs and elongated script. The movie gives an enriching experience about a Brahman’s life and thus, is a treat to watch.
Star Performances: The movie stars Upendra, Kannada superstar, who is portraying the role of Basavanna. As usual, Upendra is at his usual best. Upendra was never seen as a priest in the past which gives many of his fans a reason to hit the theaters. He has done an amazing job as a Brahman priest.
What’s there?
1. The first half is as promising as it could be. Upendra in the Brahman’s role nailed it as usual.
2. The script is really good, and some wild turns are appreciable.
3. Songs are less in number and will get you dancing for sure.
4. The dialogues are one that you’ll remember for long, especially the ones, delivered by Upendra.
What’s not there?
1. The movie’s second half has a lot of unnecessary action sequences and poor execution of the script.
2. The way action, terrorism, and death attacks sideline the main track, clearly disappoints.
3. Moreover, the villain, Ravi Shanker, has failed to make a negative impact. The dialogue delivery and characterization lacks maturity, which is visible throughout the second half.
Verdict:Â The movie is a treat to watch for all Upendra fans. For others, it is a one-time watch with a good script, decent action, and some catchy songs.
