Plot
ACP Arjun is an officer who uses unconventional and uncommon ways to detain suspects through deadly encounters rather than going through and following usual protocols. Arjun has some special feelings for Priya, she is Andrew’s sister. Andrew is Arjun’s colleague and friend. But Arjun is holding himself back from committing to marry her because of the danger that she can face, arising from his profession. The city was horrified because of a serial killer “smile-killer” for leaving mysterious notes with the dead bodies. He especially abducts, ghastly, and targets young girls. Arjun and Andrew were assigned to investigate the case and catch this culprit. Then, in an encounter, Andrew loses his life. Haunted by this trauma Arjun resigned from his job and started a cafe living a normal life with Priya. But one day a year later, news resurfaces that the culprit has escaped. The rest of the story revolves around how the cops and Arjun together plan to catch the culprit, who is once again spreading fear by conducting multiple murders.
Star Performance
The movie contains an interesting star cast with Jairam Ravi and Nayantara as the lead pair. Rahul Bose as the negative character Bhrama, stole the first half of the movie for his outstanding performance. The rest of the cast also did a decent job that satisfied the film. But the direction and screenwriting of the movie could have been better, to lessen boredom in the second half.
Analysis
Iraivan is a Tamil psychological thriller film where a psychopath tortures & brutally murders young women and taunts the police with letters with a smiley. The movie starts very well, especially the first half is very gripping. However, the second half seems stretched with many blaring errors in the screenplay, which shouldn't have been there. How an ex-cop gets all the privileges on par with cops working on the case and firing away, sidelining all the cops working on the case seems unrealistic. Also, the movie does not provide details on how police catch the culprit in the first half, which leaves a little curiosity in the viewers. The ending could have been better and more understandable explaining the factors, did Arjun and Priya get married and What happens to Babu after Arjun visits him in the hospital. Overall, it is a one-time entertainment movie.

This film is not for those who want an unabridged suspense thriller with a logical storyline. But the movie will suit you if you are searching for a one-time watch movie for entertainment.
