Plot
Aparna considers herself the unluckiest of the people in the world. However, when she gets hold of a mysterious object, everything she wishes for happens, whether for the good or the bad. As she consults a psychologist about the bizarre events, a vengeful spirit possesses her in the quest for revenge. Who will prevail?
Star Performances
The only good thing about this film is the performances of Mottai Rajendran and Tiger Thangadurai. The saddest part is that they were not even the main actors in this film!
Analysis
Ever heard of the quote, ‘Appearances can be Deceptive’? If yes, ‘Guardian’ is one of the great examples of this maxim. The film claims to be a horror thriller. The reality, however, is way different.
The film oscillates between horror [or the thought of it] and unintentionally funny scenes, which makes this movie a masterclass on how not to approach a horror movie.
Agreed that in our nation, horror films are more of laughing stocks rather than a serious investment into the genre. However, with films like ‘Tumbbad’, ‘Virupaksha’, and even ‘Bulbbul’ to an extent, the scope for good horror movies has increased. As such, making a movie like Guardian just reflects the lack of interest the makers had in this project. Despite having two directors, the film failed to deliver even one chilling moment. Did the viewers ask for too much?
Hansika Motwani has been doing several horror projects of late. But this is one project that she would love to forget as soon as possible. Even her performance is far from satisfactory. There was an angle of consent as well, but it was not given a proper space in the narrative. The only redeeming quality that could have made this film slightly watchable disappeared in less than a second, forget a minute!
Is there anything good? Yes, and ironically that was just a filler. Yes, we are talking about the performances of the comic artists, including Mottai Rajendran and Tiger Thangadurai. Only they attempted to engage the audiences with whatever screen space they were allotted

‘Guardian’ is that one horror thriller that you would want to forget not because of the chills provided by the story, but by the sheer mediocrity of it! You should watch this film only if you are strong-willed, and wish to test your survival skills!    Â
