Plot
Five women and a trans man coming from different social backgrounds face pressure in their daily lives due to their body image issues.
Star performance
All the actors have done a fantastic job. Every single one of them has played their characters with sensitivity. There were some roles if overdone would’ve ruined the narrative but the writing and the performances have come together perfectly.
Analysis
Cinema in general is primarily catered to the male gaze. 90% of the theater-going audience is male. This reflects the makers to constantly make the film for men and women only playing second fiddle, love interest which directly is for the growth of the male protagonist. Women's stories are slowly and steadily becoming mainstream and are not restricted to only art films. Hindi cinema is also one of the leading industries constantly investing in projects where the leading lady takes charge. Malayalam cinema is also setting a standard year by year regarding stories and presentation.
B 32 Muthal 44 Vare delves into women’s issues with nuance. The directorial debut of Shuruthi Sharanyam is commendable from the writing to direction all of it has come together beautifully. The film also talks about several issues that women have faced across industries. The actors have played their part well and have put out beautiful performances. The editing, music, and cinematography have made a fantastic mixture that turns out like a poem. The film’s theme is around “breast” and it is also used in the movie as a metaphor and it pans out beautifully in the entirety of the film. The film does have some inconsistencies, but the performances and story would make you forget about it. B32 Muthal 44 Vare is a thought-provoking film that should be watched in the theaters.
