Plot
COVER STORY revolves around a famous film actress named Anjum and her unique information about her personal life, her assignments, and stardom rife on the cover story of a popular magazine of the same name, a one-night story of interview and the scoop that the correspondent gets for publishing about her. Further, it is also about a veteran journalist who thinks there is something fishy about the leading actress. However, their conversations during the interview led the journalist to the exciting world of the actress. However, everything is being recorded, so the tension rises between both, leading to a particular chaos.
Star Performance
Despite the flaws of the plot, the star performer remains Jackie Shroff. He has portrayed the role of a journalist incredibly well and has done a remarkable job as a grey character in the first half of the movie.
Analysis
The story is excellent but the movie is unfortunately one and a half hours of two ingrate adolescents sliding to the gutters and doing nothing but shower each other with hatred.
The story revolves around a political correspondent who is nearly forced to follow an actress’s lifestyle by his editor’s order despite his displeasure and disdain for his superior. The man, who portrays a rude and frustrated journalist, is Jackie Shroff, and the lady whom he interviews is Sheena, an actress.
This is entirely a two-header movie and belongs more to the “let’s sit down and talk” type. The lead actors have performed to the best of their capabilities but the question that comes to mind is whether the whole tabloid scandal is required. That in real life, any actress, not to mention any journalist, would share her big secrets with a stranger is rather doubtful. But of course that is the twist of the plot here in that it is never clear as to what degree what they are stating is the actual truth or an exaggeration. It is very much a tale of how the media and the stars employ each other to pursue their agendas.
Even though the abstract of “Cover Story” can be considered quite interesting – if only highly pessimistic – the piece suffers from overly vague, utterly uninspired, and completely static conversation. The unimportant questions ‘Who deceives whom’ and ‘What is the ‘real’ nature of the characters’ transform into overly significant concerns in the motive of the plot that is quickly redundant. The end effect is a critically unpleasant and paradoxical kind of watching experience. All in all, it is difficult to like even though one tries hard.

Verdict
The movie is significantly a one-time watch as the storyline is excellent, however, due to the dialogue delivery and pessimistic way of moving forward, it is boring as well, so it is hard to watch it another time. However, for the first-time watch, it may seem a bit intriguing, so people won’t have a tough time to watch for the first time.
