Plot The 9th Life of Louis Drax is a mystic thriller film. It is based on a novel by Max Minghella Max Giorgio Choa Minghella is an American actor. H >> Read More... of the same name. The story begins on the 9th birthday of Louis Drax when such events begin to take place that they almost result in very serious consequences. Then come Dr Allan Pascal who searches for strange circumstances that are the reason behind the accidents and mishaps that have taken place with the boy. Adding to that are things which are like really dark consequences that plague his life. Allan is drawn into a thrilling mystery that makes enter into a different world of fantasy.

The question arises is of imagination and reality. This mystery makes him explore the nature of the sixth sense.

Analysis Alexandre Aja is the director of the film. It is pretty obvious that he himself sort of mocks the legitimacy of these supernatural tales but is can be said for sure that the film does not lack in style. However, it sort of disappoints the viewers a lot especially when the young protagonist is dead in the beginning itself. The film, which is supposed to be a supernatural thriller, turns out to be pretty dull and almost laughable adding to that something that never finds its way. The movie actually does not come out as good as one would expect it to be.

Moreover, it seems like the makers themselves were not aware if the film is a thriller or a comedy. The narrative of the film is very confusing and adding to that the tonne is also not stable. There is actually a lot of things in the film, from medical crisis to family, to love, and visions. All of them brought together to create a mess and by the time the makers actually put them together, viewers confusion gives way to indifference. The music is by Patrick Watson and cinematography by Maxime Alexandre.

Star Performances The film stars Jamie Dorman as Dr Allan Pascal, Sarah Gadon Sarah Lynn Gadon is popularly known as Sarah Gadon >> Read More... as Natalie Drax, and Aiden Longworth as Louis Drax amongst others. Oliver Platt Oliver Platt was born on January 12, 1960. He is b >> Read More... , Molly Parker, Julian Wadham, Jane McGregor are other members of the cast. The performance of the actors is not appreciated to a great extent.

Jamie Dorman remains mostly expressionless throughout the film. He is totally incapable of drawing viewer’s attention to himself and his purpose in his film though he plays the lead and this occurs more of in his scenes with Gadon. She too does not many things to do in the film. Paul, on the other hand, is pretty good at what he does, though he too does not have a major part. Actors seem like they don’t wish to be where they are, and so there is a sort of listlessness.

What’s there? The film is a thumb up if any sort of supernatural thriller or just a thriller is enough for you.

What’s not there? There is basically nothing. Viewers feel that makers themselves are unaware of the things going on in the film. It is not even sure if the film is a supernatural thriller or a comedy. The movie shifts a lot from its course. Adding to that, there are a lot of things in the film which prevents the main idea from coming up.

Verdict The decision to watch depends entirely on the interest of the audience. It is not bad for a one time watch but nothing great either.
