The film Pele: Birth of a Legend is about a football player Pele in Brazil. There are many African descendants in Brazil, particularly in the slums. Pele was one such football player from the slums of Latin America. The game of football in America was dominated by the whites, and about how a black rose to stardom is what the movie is all about. The movie raised a considerable hype among the audiences, and whether or not it has met the expectations is the story.
Plot
Pele was born in the slums of Brazil. In 1950, Brazil, known for its excellence in football, clashed with Uruguay in a football game. Brazil miserably lost the game, and that was when Pele, who was just a child, took an oath to win the world-cup in football.
Star Performances
Many children have done roles in the movie. Leonardo Lima Carvalho has done the role of younger Pele. The main lead child artiste and the rest of the children seem to be overacting in the movie. When they are taken over by grownup stars depicting the life of the football player, the movie gets better. Seu George, who has done the role of Pele’s father, has done his role well.
Analysis
The movie’s directors Jeff and Michael Zimbalist have done a wonderful job in absorbing the real-life story of Pele. The movie seems to be snail-paced at times. Otherwise, there are hair-raising scenes in the movie which depict the life of the football player.
What is there?
What is not there?
The philanthropic side of Pele in his later stage is not shown in the movie.
Verdict
The movie proves to be a fine treat for those who know the game of football well.
