Plot
There was a girl named Dani Ardor. She is an American psychology student. She is facing a mental trauma due to her sister committing murder-suicide. This results in her losing her family. Christian is her boyfriend. He wants to break up with her. Even his friends support it, as they consider their relationship toxic. But as her current condition is terrible, Christian was not able to do it. This results in him taking her on the journey that he and his friends were going to. The trip is a midsummer festival at Pelle's ancestral commune, the Hårga, in rural Hälsingland. This festival happens once every 90 years and is considered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. There were strange things were happening during this festival. What is this strangeness? What will happen to Dani Ardor? The rest of the story deals with it.
Star Performance
Florence Pugh, as Dani, did an incredible performance in the film. Her journey to escape from the traumatic experience was brilliant. Her detailing of the character was outstanding. The way she becomes the anti-hero of the storyline was excellently delivered. Jack Reynor, as Christian, did a fantastic performance in the movie. He shows the boyfriend, who is desperate to break up with his girlfriend. Everything about him was perfect. His acting was impressive. One would fear Gunnel Fred, as Siv, after watching this movie. That much impact he made in the whole movie. His appearance as the friendly elderly was scary, horrifying, and, at the same time, creepy. He did a remarkable performance in the film. All the other actors were as good as the main lead actors.
Analysis
The storyline of the film was great, creepy, horrifying, and scary. The film focus on the Central theme of a sinister cult. The film shows how traumatic experiences change us. The horror nature of the film is maintained from the start till the end. The elements of toxic masculinity, white nationalist, globalization and American imperialism, the new Cold War, male rape, and mass suicide are well portrayed in the film. The cinetomagraphy and direction were excellently done in the film. The background music and songs play a significant role in the movie. The dialogues were excellent. There was freshness in the concept; unlike other horror movies where darkness is used for horror, here it is brightness. The creepiness in the film is the highlight.
