Plot

A young woman grieving from her fiance’s death tries to cope by sending flirtatious text messages to his old cell phone number and forms a connection with the man who now has the number.

Star Performance

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan lack the chemistry a romantic pair is supposed to have. Priyanka’s awkward and not in a good way. Sam Heughan is constantly switching accents. At first, he’s supposed to be British but puts on a Scottish accent and then out of nowhere tries the American accent. Celine Dion is playing herself even though it's mentioned as “fictionalized” She’s far from it but it's fun to see her in a full feature film for the first time.

Analysis

We’ve all heard the famous Titanic song “My heart Will Go On” and the backstory behind it. How “love can touch us one time, and lasts for a lifetime” The singer Celine Dion’s personal life is no secret and she has not hidden anything and everybody knows about her struggle. The film Love Again is also like that. About healing. The film is filled with references from Celine Dion’s songs. The film starts with a bummer and seems to never recover from it. The leads don’t have the chemistry a lead romantic pair is supposed to have. Celine Dion packs the punch of being charismatic, vulnerable, and sentimental. Her being the love guru is kind of a saving grace if you’re a fan of her songs. The film tries to tone itself like Dion’s songs but fails to execute it. The film is like watching something and casually moving on. Love Again is like that. It's a film you watch casually on TV. The film has some problematic sequences like stalking. Celine Dion sharing details from her real-life relationship with her late husband and her being strong is one of the most endearing moments of the film. The film is a decent watch.

What's there?

  • Celine Dion’s performance and the references to her songs
  • A simple casual rom-com

What's not there?

  • The leads lack the chemistry
  • The film loses its pace despite being only 1 hr 44 min

Verdict

Love Again is a decent romcom and if you’ve loved Celine Dion’s songs you will enjoy it.
