PLOT

The film starts with a character named Driver, once gets out of prison after 10yrs of punishment for his role in a bank robbery; he is ready to search murderers of his half brother. After few hours, he gets to know about a killers: a veteran police officer and an assassin.

The driver can’t kill him until he gets to know about other unknown people who are involved in it; those people may endanger his life. The police officer tries to chase down Driver. But he himself is screwed-up in his life. Killer’s story is centralized on his girlfriend and their future together.

His story slowly unfolds his life as a handicap kid and becoming owner of a software company and achieving things. All these stories never make any connection to each other. Grace character is just to ogle and comes in between and vanishes.

End of the film is disappointing and not serving purpose of character to kill murderers instead he takes his brother’s ashes in the sea and drives off. His quality to forgive enemy and to feel grateful towards killer is surprising.

ANALYSIS

The plot is similar to Grindhouse movies in 70s. It’s more like three different episodes of a TV serial. The director tried to show world of honesty, ethics, etc. with these muscular men, fast cars in dark world of revenge.

The role of police officer is too small compare to other character, which is disappointing; he is the only good actor in it. Most of action scenes are already done and there is nothing new or memorable in it. Driver is not having many dialogues through out the film. That makes audience curious to see next scene. Because of this, other character’s helps to discover past for them. Secondary characters are in odd backgrounds.

STAR PERFORMANCES

Billy Bob Thornton acted well as a veteran police officer with a heroin problem and as a careless guy. The killer played by Oliver-Jackson Cohen, who is a rich guy with his girlfriend Lily. This is not Dwayne Johnson’s best film, though, but he acted ok in it. He talks hardly 5-10mins in between and keeps his blunt, emotion less killer look all over the film.

WHAT’S THERE?

Violent, mediocre film theme and noise of the car. Similar car sequences alike other Hollywood films.

WHAT’S NOT THERE?

Screenplay and dialogues could have been better and with the suitable climax. Use of characters names as ‘Driver’, ‘Killer’ is the too direct approach. The main character - Driver’s past is not shown in details and kept him secretive.

VERDICT

Faster is a below average film. Director missed the opportunity to make this film better. Those who love fast cars, guns and hot chicks can watch this. The plot is raw, mean and supposes to release in 1970 instead of 2010. Those who love 70s Grindhouse movies, do check this one.
