Plot:
The movie is based on the life of a simple and naive Tim Lippe. He has never been out of his hometown or experienced city life and is unaware of the way the corporate world works. Even though he is an insurance agent with Brownstar Insurance, he has been restricted to his small hometown. Tim is in a physical relationship with his 7th grade teacher, Mrs. Venderhei. Since his colleague, Roger Lemke, whom he also idolized, mysteriously died, Tim is asked to go to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He has the pressure of keeping up with the legacy of getting back the Two Diamonds award which Lemke had got for the company for the past three years.
At 34, Tim was unaware that this would be a life-changing experience for him. Being the person that he was, Tim develops a genuine friendship with some of his fellow insurance agents there; Ronald, Dean and Joan. Tim had a crush on Joan. He also meets a sex worker, Bree. Very soon, Tim began adapting to the ways of the modern city with parties, liquor, and also involving with Joan. Eventually, he comes to know how his idol, Lemke bribed the ASMI chief, Orin Hegelsson to win the award. Eventually, he had to resort to do the same thing because of the pressure built by his boss, Bill, to maintain the standard of their company.
When the time comes, Bill just couldn’t do with his shameful act and openly confessed what Lemke had been doing and how he followed his footsteps. What happens to his company? Will Tim survive a job or work for himself? How does Joan’s role in his life turn out to be? To find answers to all these questions watch the movie.
Analysis:
The movie does not a have a strong plot but it manages to keep your eyes fixed throughout. A very predictable story that goes around the life of a common man. Perhaps the beauty of it lies in its simplicity. Cedar Rapid is one hilarious movie of its kind. It will surely not fail to make your stomach burst with laughter. Helms and Reilly did a brilliant job and succeeded in their endeavor. Reilly, however, stole the show.
Verdict:
All in all, it is a movie worth watching especially when you are eager to run away from the heavy mind. A perfect watch for good health.
