Plot: Oren, a cantankerous old man, is running a real estate business. After his wife’s demise, he started to avoid everyone and acts grumpy even with his son. Leah, Oren’s neighbor and also a widow runs her livelihood by singing in the nearby lounge. Oren’s antagonized son suddenly leaves his nine-year-old daughter at his father’s residence to take care of her. Oren is not even aware that he has a granddaughter and is totally confused. Both Sarah and Oren are lonely, and they need some change in their lives. Leah comes into the scene and takes care and makes them feel better. Oren also changes his attitude towards everyone.
Douglas Keaton’s performance was warm and matured. They shared a good amount of chemistry. The little girl, Sarah, was the girl next door. She was perfectly natural; neither over acting nor over cute. Though the film seems to be breezy and light with few chuckles here and there, most of the jokes behind those chuckles were weak and enforced. Few of the jokes did not make any sense (where Oren is forced to look after a pregnancy.)
The Screenplay was a bit poor and narration as well. Most of the scenes are easily predictable. Unfortunately, this attempt of director Rob Reiner was once again a flop. He was not able to produce a wave among the young audience and failed to evoke emotional wave among the audience. The mature and old audience may appreciate this film. Neither this film has caused indigestion nor filled the tummy, but just a bland diet especially made for the aged audience.
Verdict: ‘And so it goes’ missed to create some perception. Makes us to check the watch for time often.
