It’s small movies to the rescue of Tollywood again.
Directed by Sai Marthand, the romantic comedy Little Hearts has surprised both the critics and the audience with its performance at the movies. The movie stars Mouli and Shivani Nagaram in the lead roles.
Little Hearts is made on a budget less than 5 crores. The opening weekend collection of the movie is itself more than 4 crores, which means that the movie has officially recovered its budget domestically.
Interestingly, Tollywood is thriving mostly on the successes of small movies this year. From Sankranthiki Vasthunnam to the likes of Court – State vs a Nobody, most of the successful movies in Telugu cinema had a budget of less than 50 crores. Even the third instalment of HIT franchise, which proved to be commercially successful, had a modest budget of between 60 and 70 crores.
On the hand, most of the big budget movies with the lone exception of Daaku Maharaaj have struggled to even recover their costs at the box offices. Even Vijay Deverakonda’s much awaited banger Kingdom failed to recover its original cost at the domestic box office.
