Khumukcham Sanchita Chanu from Manipur took part in the 53 Kg category and lifted 84kg in the snatch and then 108 kg in the clean and jerk. With the total of 192kg, Sanchita broke the current commonwealth record and clinched gold. Sanchita had won the gold under 48 kg category before four years at Glasgow Commonwealth Games. At present India is in the third position in the medals tally with two gold and silver and all the three are from weightlifting. England tops the chart with 6 gold, 3 silvers and 3 bronze and Australia in second place with 5 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze.
