’, has raised this point in one of her recent interviews. According to her, most of the recent successes are devoid of women in prominent roles, making people wonder where are the women in Malayalam cinema now?
While Anjali has raised a point of concern, let us not forget that this is the same Malayalam cinema which has continuously made films where women have their due say, something not even Bollywood or Kollywood can vouch for. Irrespective of the ideology, one of the greatest successes of 2024 is ‘Premalu’, where both the sides in the romantic drama have been given equal attention.
However, with the kind of representation in the recent successes, it remains to be seen as if content is being prioritized as usual or something else.
