Pakistani filmmaker
Sabiha Sumar
has roped in
Kalki Koechlin
for her next. There was news that Kalki had visited Pakistan earlier this January and was caught having local delicacies. Apart from the food she also toured the interiors of Sindh and socialized with people like Sharmila Faruqui. Sabiha confirms that Kalki’s trip to Pakistan earlier this year was not a mere outing, but it was a major work that took the actress there. Sabiha has been planning to create a documentary named Azmaish- Trials of Life. Apparently, the film is about the duo, Kalki and Sabiha, who tour the two countries and explore the lifestyles, customs and the roots of violence. Sabiha says that she had followed Kalki’s work since a long time but had the opportunity to meet her only in 2015’s edition of the Mumbai Film Festival. On talking to her, Sabiha felt that she is a kind of a person who is aware of her surroundings and is concerned about the worldly issues and empathizes with them deeply. This attitude fits perfectly with the character she has in her documentary. She had approached her with the concept and the story and Kalki immediately agreed to be a part of it. Kalki, who is Sabiha’s Indian partner, paid her maiden visit to Pakistan, and the two of them have been through the villages, hills, and deserts of the country. Kalki handpicked the Indian locations and did the same with the filmmaker here in India. The idea behind the extensive traveling was to capture the feel and essence of both the countries and understand their perspectives towards their lives and towards that of the other. Sabiha says that the shoot is still going on and feels that budget is the most challenging factor in a documentary. The release date of Azmaish has not been decided yet.
