Google and Samsung are not the only ones grilling an AI-powered photo eraser into their devices. Microsoft recently announced Generative erase, which comes bundled with Windows. The Generative erase has the same function as the ‘Photos’ app in Windows. Microsoft claims that in addition to releasing the Generative erase app in Windows 11 for Arms64 devices, it is also backporting the entire Photos’ AI edit tools to Windows 10, including the background removal feature. However, the app needs to be updated to version 2024.11020.21001.0 or higher.
The Generative erase tool will help you fix and remove unwanted background objects or any distractions from your photos. Compared to Microsoft’s Spot fix tool, the new eraser produces an impeccable and realistic result after an object has been erased or even when erasing large areas.
If you want to use the Generative erase tool, simply go to the image editor in Photos and start using this AI-powered eraser. However, access to this tool is limited at the moment. The Generative erase tool hasn’t been released widely, and only Windows Insider members can use the app. With Microsoft’s credibility to create great apps, I’m pretty sure this tool will soon make its way to a more stable version.
