DDLJ-Come..Rise In Love!

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge….Nay, DDLJ, that’s what the audience used to say (let me go with their taste). What is it that made this film a great success (that it is celebrating 20 years now)? Well, let me not settle down with the routine answer. The onscreen chemistry of Shahrukh Khan and Kajol Devgan is awesome. There’s also something more to that. I think Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol made use of their talents at the right point of time by choosing an excellent script. Shah Rukh was quite successful by playing a baddie (yet lovable) in Baazigar, Darr, Anjaam etc. In fact, there was a sympathy wave for his characters all over India. And at that time DDLJ happened.

Well, if you look closely at DDLJ, it is also an addition to the negative characters played by our energetic King Khan (but not its fullest sense). Shahrukh is a happy-go-lucky guy who will do anything to win the love of his girl. And films which dealt with this victory of love (a Casanova changing for the better) have always been touched by our ever-romantic Bollywood. But again, when such subtle stories are considered, loving itself is taken as a crime by the society (here Amrish Puri). Since Shahrukh is the hero of the film and he is charismatic everyone went gaga over him. But the real winner of the story is true love which wins in the end, after facing many obstacles. Shahrukh Khan was an irresponsible guy in the film, accepted. But what changes him is that what matters. The innate innocence of Kajol’s character is something which will remain indelible in the minds of everyone. The tag line of DDLJ says Come Fall In Love…..well, let me for a change say Come Rise In Love!
