Uma Maheshwara Rao was born in Vijayawada, a city in Andhra Pradesh. He is a celebrated director and screenwriter of the Telugu and Hindi film industry. He was fond of literature from childhood and was an avid reader, which made him write poetry and short stories at a young age. He started his cinematic journey with Pula Pallaki in 1986, then Padandi Munduku in 1987, Ankuram in 1992, Sindhoora (Malayalam) in 1992, Mounam in 1995, Maun (Hindi) in 1996, Srikaram in 1996, Surya Putrulu in 1996, Avuna in 2003 and Itlu Amma in 2021 which was released on OTT.
He has acted as the Chairman of the Jury in 4 Short Film Festivals and has also been the Chairman of the West Panel of the National Film Awards The National Film Awards gets presented every year >> Read More... 2019. He was also part of the Central committee. He was among the Jury members of the Oscars in the India Entry Selections 2020. In addition to this, he is also the Chairman of Dadasaheb Phalke School of Film and Media. He has been awarded two Nandi awards and one Filmfare award.
