He was born 15 September 1942, he was born in a village named Kondiparru near Gudivada in Krishna district of present Andhra Pradesh. His original name is Rangavajhula Ranga Rao. He has two sons and a daughter. His youngest son Saakshi Shiva is also a television actor.
He was active during the years 1967-1995. He was an actor in south Indian cinema mainly Telugu and was a theatre artist. He began his career during his student age as a stenographer (the process of writing in shorthand) in Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.
He has very much passion for theatre arts and performed marvelous and memorable roles on stage. His film career started in 1960 with the movie Sakshi directed by Bapu (cartoonist and a director known for his trademark films). From then Sakshi was added to his screen name.
He has stabilized his position in Telugu cinema as comedian/villain. He had his own style of action and diction of dialogues. He acted in more than 400 films during his career. He mainly played the role of comedian and he is one of the best remembered comedians among the history of Telugu cinema. He is always preferred by the top directors at his time like K.Viswanath, Bapu and Vamsi. He almost acted in all of their films.
He was collapsed on May 5 2005 during a rehearsal for the Gurazada play, `Kanyasulkam'. For long he was in hospital and finally he died on 27 June 2005 at the age of 63 years in Chennai due to diabetes and resulting in renal failure.
