Vijay is an Indian Cinematographer working for Telugu films. He was born in Pattyveeranpatty, South Tamil Nadu. His family wanted him to aspire more & become a doctor or an engineer, but instead, he got inspired watching Balu Chandra’s directorial debut ‘Azhiyada Kalangal’, which is when he dreamt of joining the film industry. Four years later he saw another piece of PC Sreeram directed by Manila Ratnam; then he decided to be a cinematographer. His father wanted him to complete his education & join the government services. But his dreams were to set him somewhere else. He convinced his father for a job in Doordarshan after discontinuing economics within six months & abandoning polytechnic too.
During his intermediate, watching the trailer of ‘Vumai Vizihal’ by Director Ramesh Kumar, he aspired of joining film institute. But it wasn’t so easy. He completed his course from Adayar Film Institute and then made a debut as a cinematographer for ‘& Diwan’, working with
Sarath Kumar as the hero. But it didn’t come up with much success and he was so disappointed of his work that he thought of giving up & going up. He joined Arthur Wilson being an assistant for ‘Anbe Sivam & Panchatantram’. There the great Indian celebrity Kamal Hassan came into his observation & he witnessed that despite of achieving so much, Kamal was always trying to do more. And that, learning is a lifelong continuous process. Later he worked with Director Sundar for Thakadhimita.
Then got along with editor Moha and Hero Jayam Ravi for his movie ‘Das’. He got the opportunity to work as a clash cinematographer where he discovered a great team -
Dil Raju, Sukumar,
Devi Sri Prasad and others. Later, in November he was called by Dil Raju to work for ‘
Bommarillu’ and he was fascinated by Vijay’s passion for working in it. ‘Bommarillu’ was a drama, so he put his whole efforts in making sure the cinematography didn’t suppress the story. The main element for raising the film was photography, so he focused on it, trying to make it vibrant and bright. The team of the film was cooperative as well when it came to working together. They took 108 as Dil Raju gave them ample of time to choose the outfits and everything. He used ARRI 435 camera for the shots. Vijay has worked on many successful films such as ‘Bommarillu’, ‘
Parugu’ and ‘Mr. Perfect’.
