Born on 31st August 1936, Turang Janaki Rani was a radio broadcaster, social activist, and writer. She was born in Machilipatnam, Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh. She did her schooling and college education in Machilipatnam. She then completed her post-graduation in Indian history and economics from Andhra University. She is also a diploma holder in Bharatnatyam and has performed and choreographed ballets for Doordarshan. Janaki Rani started her career as a welfare officer in Central Social Welfare Board in 1958. In 1974 she joined All India Radio as a producer. She also wrote a few short story anthologies, novels, and books for children.
