Vellai Subbaiah

VellaiSubbaiah was an actor who generally used to appear in the Tollywood cinema. He had over 500 film appearances, andalmost 1000 stage plays in a career that spans more than forty years. One of his most famous dialogue, "ThirumbaThirumbapesura nee..." from the movie, NesamPudhusu, which released back in the year 1999, is one of his most memorable moments for fans of the Tamil cinema.

His birthplace is, PunjaiPuliampatti village, which is a part of Coimbatore. He was born in the year 1937. He wasn't someone who loved studies, so what he did was ran away from school at a very young age because he was least interested in education. But he loved acting in plays and was very interested in it. Then one fine day he met the owner of a drama group named anthiyur drama troupe for a chance to act in plays.

For pursuing his dreams in the cinema industry, he moved to Madras. His first act in a film was a cameo role that was uncredited and, the film was a very successful silver jubilee movie, Pasamalar. Then the director, Santo Chinnappa Thevar, who is also known as 'Sandow,’ offered him an opportunity to play a role in the cinema. In the year 1970, his first movie Manavanmade way to the cinema screens.

He has performed in some films, but, his major recognition came from the song, "MegamKarukkaiyile" from Ilaiyaraaja music. The last movie he acted in was Kannukulle, which released in the year 2009, after which there is no record of him on screen. Vellai Subbaiah was married to Savitri. With her, he has a daughter named Dhanalakshmi.

She is his only daughter. Now, she is married and settled with her family in Kuwait. Five years before his death, he was living in Sivanpuram, which comes under Coimbatore District. A week before his death, he fell ill and was undergoing treatment. Then finally, on 6th September 2017 he passed away. He passed away at the age of 83.
