Udayakantha Warnasuriya is one of the best directors in the Sri Lankan film industry. He is a screenwriter, director, producer, and author. He was born and brought up in Colombo. Udayakantha authored two books, Yakada Pihatu and Wassanaye Sanda, based on his films.

Udayakantha Warnasuriya debuted in 1985 as a writer in the film industry with the film Karadiya Walalla. He was the art director of the film, too. He made his directorial debut in 1997 with the film Mahamera Usata. Almost for all his films, he is the screenplay writer. Gini Avi Saha Gini Keli was released in 1998. It was produced by Ranjith Jayasuriya.
