Vasantha Doreen Peterson (born 18 October 1959) is a Sri Lankan actress. Chathurani is one of the most successful personalities in Sri Lanka. She is popularly known as Vasanthi Chathurani.
She was born on 18 October 1959 in Gampaha, Sri Lanka. She and her older sister grew up in their grandmother Maggie Nona’s house. She completed her education at Holy Cross Convent, Gampaha. At the age of 16, she made her debut in Sumitra Peiris’s Gehenu Lamai.

. She won the Best Actress award for her performance in the same. She was also honoured with the Sumathi Most Popular Actress Award in 1997 and the Sumathi Best Teledrama Actress Award in 1998, 2002 and 2009.
Chathurani's career came to a temporary halt when she got married in 1979. But soon, she rose to stardom with her performance in Adara Hasuna, Duwata Mawaka Misa and Sudu Sevanali. Vasanthi has also delivered powerful, dramatic performances in movies like Amal Biso, Siribo Aiya, Hansa Vilak and Bththi Hathara. In 2003, she appeared in the film Wekande Walauwa, directed by Lester James Peiris, which received widespread acclaim.
Chathurani also gained recognition as a teledrama actress, in shows such as Maya Mandira, Itipahan, Chala Achala, Durganthaya, Giraya, Hingana Kolla, Kadulla, Gajaman Nona and Kulavamiya. Chathurani has also been a part of the production team of successful teledramas such as Aga Pipi Mal, Sedona and Ranga Soba.
