Rangana Premaratne is a Sri Lankan actor and teledrama producer. He was born on January 12, 1959, in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka, and studied at Thurstan College and Maliyadeva College. He began his career on stage with Sajan Nallathambi, a Sri Lankan play that gained popularity even in the Middle East and became a financial success. He entered the silver screen in the 1987 teledrama Gamana, directed by K.A.W Perera. His successful teledramas include Humualaya (1992), Isurugira (1995), Kalu Hansayo (1995), Ekagei Kaurullo, Manokaya (1998), Kinihiraka Pipi Mal (1999), Kadumuna (1999), Makara Vijithaya (1999), Sanda Kiduru (1999), and Ekata Gatuma (1999). Of these, 1995’s Isurugira was Sri Lanka’s representative at Golden Crest International Television Festival Bulgaria.

Manokaya (1998) earned Premaratne the award for Best Actor. In 2000s, Rangana Premaratne acted in teledramas, Bopath Ella (2001), Damini (2001), Randunu (2001), Ruwata Ruwa (2002), Ran Dalambuwo (2003), Tharu Paba (2003), Maya Mansala (2004), Punchi Rala (2004), Uththamavi (2004), Ran Mehesi (2005), Madu Nam Eya (2006), and Makara Dadayama (2006). One of Premaratne’s famous roles was in Ruwata Ruwa, where he played triple roles and got nominated as best actor at the Sumathi Awards. Beginning with Gini Avi Gini Keli in 1998, Rangana Premaratne acted in films Surayahana Gini Gani (1999), Sakman Maluwa (2003), Leader (2009), Ira Handa Yata (2009), Doni (2013), and Ran Sayura (2017). From 2001 onwards, Premaratne also branched out into production, producing teledramas such as Randuni, Punchi Rala, and Ruwata Ruwa. He is married to beautician Vinolee Premaratne with whom he has four children, Nimnaadie, Didula, Sasathyaa, and Monaalee Premartne.
