Vidya Bal was a journalist and writer of Indian origin. She belonged to Maharashtra and almost all of her work was written in Marathi. She tirelessly worked towards gender equality. She wrote numerous articles educating people about feminism and worked towards improving the status of women in society. She started as an assistant editor of a monthly magazine Stree in 1964 and later became the main editor of the magazine in 1983. In 1989, she founded her own magazine - Miloon Saryajani.
She fought a case in the Maharashtra High Court and won the women of the country the right to enter various religious places. Her works include Shodh Swatahacha, Kamalaki, Tumachya Majhyasathi, Sanwad, Aparajitanche Nihshwas, and Katha Gaurichi among others.
