Sawani Shende

Sawani Shende was born on 18th August 1979 in Pune, India, into a wealthy family and was trained in classical music by various experts from a very tender age. Sawani is the daughter of Sanjiv Shende who is a disciple of Shobha Gurte. Sawani was trained in Classic Musicals at an early itself by the guidance of her grandmother, Smt. Kusum Shende is a well-known singer herself. With excellent training and increased interest, Sawani developed to become a well-known Marathi singer. Later Sawani was trained in various semi-classical genres under expert guidance. 

Sawani started her musical career at a young age and has performed at various prestigious events and concerts. She has trained in the Gwalior Gharana of Indian classical music under the guidance of Pt. Dr. Prabha Atre. Sawani has also trained in thumri and Dadra from Smt. Girija Devi. Besides her classical music performances, Sawani has also sung for Marathi films and television shows. Sawani has received several awards and honors for contributing to Indian classical music. She was awarded the prestigious "Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Award" in 2016 and the "Sangeet Ratna Award" by the Government of Maharashtra in 2017. Her increased desire to explore various fields of music and her passion for impressing her audience with the quality of her music made Sawani one of the most talented classical singers in the Marathi music industry.
