In India's Maharashtra state, Bombay, Shrihari Sathe was born in 1983. He attended St. Xavier's College in Mumbai for his education before relocating to the US at 17. He took a brief hiatus in 2007 to work on Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's movie Delhi-6. He worked on that movie for about a year before returning to New York City to complete his degree. Infinitum Productions, his production company, with offices in Mumbai and New York. After retiring from the banking profession in 2009 after more than 30 years of service, Shrihari's father, Chandrashekhar Shrikrishna Sathe, agreed to work with him. They currently work closely on projects.

His father also provides funding for his productions. Since 2015, Shrihari Sathe has regularly given master's classes at numerous universities. He is an adjunct assistant professor at Columbia University's School of the Arts. A producer and director from India are named Shrihari Sathe. Sathe is a 2013 Creative Producing Fellow at the Sundance Institute. His first film as a feature-length director, 1000 Rupee Note (Ek Hazarachi Note), was nominated for over 35 prizes and won the Special Jury Award and Centenary Award for Best Film at the 2014 International Film Festival of India. He served on the Miami International Film Festival jury in 2017. As part of the 34th Independent Spirit Awards, Shrihari Sathe was given the Producers Award 2019.

Sathe is the 2016 Cinereach Producer Award winner. He received fellowships from Trans Atlantic Partners in 2013 and the Cannes Producer's Network in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Breaking the Chain (2010), which won the Golden Palm Award at the Mexico International Film Festival; First Day of Peace (2010), which won the Grand Jury Prize at Slamdance (2010), and Off Season (2010), which was nominated for a BAFTA. Sathe is a member of the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association, the Producers Guild of America, and the Film Writers Association (India).
