Ashok Rane is a well-known director of the Indian Film Industry, who has also won the National award as a film critic twice. He has been involved in the film world for nearly 40 years in multiple incorporations as a social movement activist, scholar, and professor of film studies for 35 years. He is a film tutor, the coordinator-Maharashtra film and stage Cultural Development Corporation, and a famed author. He has done considerable research and exploration of French New Wave cinema in Cinematheque Francaise, Paris, he was also invited to prestigious international film festivals from around the globe as a film critic.
Ashok Rane was a special guest, and Jury member at Toronto International film carnivals, Rotterdam International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, IFFI-2011, and a few more renowned film carnivals. He is also a Panel member on the Film Critics Circle of India panel at IFFI on the impact of technology in cinema. His penned books include Sakhkhe Sobati, Adhyayanche Strot, Montage, Cinema Pahnara Manus, and many more. He is an honoree of the Special Mentioned award (Book on Cinema Cinemachi Chittarkatha - 1995), and he is the recipient of 2 National Awards, 2 International Awards, and the Konkan Marathi Sathiya Parishad award for his book on unique people he met in the world over.
