Born on 13th April 1890, Dadasaheb Torne is a film director and producer from Mumbai. He was popularly known as the Father of Indian cinema for making the first feature film in India, Shree pundalik.
At the tender age of 11, Dadasaheb Torne dropped out of his education and headed for the job. He initially worked as an electrician and instrument repairer at the Cotton Green Electrical Company. Shree pundalik was published in The Times of India and was a big hit back then.
Torne established a studio, Saraswati Cinetone in Pune, it produced excellent movies such as “Aut Ghatkecha Raja”, “Raja Gopichand”, “Bhakt Pralhad”, and many more. Aut Ghatkecha Raja was the first movie that initiated the concept of double roles in the Hindi Cinema Industry.
