Bal Karve is an established Indian stage/ film actor. He was born and raised in Pune. He is known for his performance in Marathi theatre, television, and Marathi movies. He started acting in 1977 with the film “Banya Bapu.” It was directed by Govind Kulkarni. Bal Karve is seen playing the role of “Bapu” in the Marathi movie. In 1978 he got to be a part of the play “Suryachi Pille” directed by Damu Kenkre. The play featured Madhav Vatve, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Mohan Gokhale, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, and Shanta Jog. The same year he appeared in two Marathi movies, “Chandra Hota Sakshila” and “Chandoba Chandoba Bhaglas Ka.” He has also done a Marathi TV serial named “Chimanrao Gundyabhau.”
It was a sitcom based on CV Joshi’s books on Doordarshan. In 1981 he appeared in the movie “Sundara Satarkar,” directed by Prabhakar Nikanth. In his other film “Chatak Chandni,” he played the role of Kanhiya Seth. The film was written and directed by Prakash Bhende. In Arun Vasudev Karnatki’s “Paaygoon,” he is seen playing the role of Joshi Bua. After that, he appeared in the TV series “Swami,” where he is seen as Gangoba Tatya. It aired on TV in 1988. “Godi Gulaabi” was one of the most popular movies he appeared in. Then he appeared in the movies “Lapandav” and “Kusum Manohar Lele.” In 1999, he is seen in the show “Prapanch.” This show was one of the most watched TV shows of that time. It aired till 2002. He also played a role in the 2009 TV show “Abhilashi,” which aired on “Zee Marathi.”
In 2018 Bal Karve was honored with “Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar” at Zee Natya Gaurav Awards.
He celebrated his 95th birthday in August 2025. On 28th August 2025, he breathed his last at his home in Mumbai’s Vile Parle.
