Sister Sudha Varghese is an Indian lawyer in Kerala. She was born on 5th September 1949 in Kottayam district, Kerala. Sister is a Catholic nun who devoted herself to Musahar, the Dalits of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and Scheduled Castes. She works in Jamsaut, which a village in Patna and often referred to as Didi. Worked as a chief executive officer for a no-profit organization named Nari Gunjan that provides education, literacy, vocational training, and healthcare advocacy to Dalit girls.
In 1965 she moved to Bihar where she learned Hindi and English at Notre Dame Academy. For Musahar, she quit her well-paid teacher job in the convent and started living in a house made up of mud and bricks in 1986. In 1989, she received her law degree from a school in Bangalore to fight for the women and girls who are accused of rape, sexual harassment, faces abuse, and many others.
she opened many centers and schools to train women and girls in reading, writing, sewing, training in nutrition, sanitation, and many other necessary things. Sudha also received the Padma Shri Award which was awarded by the Government of India to her in 2006.
