Sumedha Kharmahe, known by nickname “Chattisgarh Ki Barbie Doll” is a well-known playback singer. She got a nation wide recognition for her performance in the Saregamapa Challenge TV show. She was born in Rajnangdaon, Chattisgarh to Gyanesh Karmahe and Sarla Karmahe. Sumedha was unable to speak until the age of two years for which her mother had to take her to doctors. But by god’s grace, she started to speak in a few days. To be more precise, she started to sing well before she could barely speak. In a short time, she became popular in her town for her singing skills. She participated in every singing competition in the district at different levels from district to state and won many prizes. But, she didn’t have an idea of making a career out of singing until that time. It was O P Nayyar, the legendary music director who recognized her talent and gave her an idea to become a singer when she won the Saregamapa Chattisgarh competition in 2004. She then moved to Chandigarh to pursue her higher education. But during the time of her final exams, She was selected for the Saregamapa Challenge 2007 for which she had to move to Mumbai. The show’s popularity boosted up exponentially as well as Sumedha’s. After the success of Saregamapa, she went to West Indies, USA, Canada to perform in a series of concerts. She performed in the prestigious IDEA Rock Concert Series 2008 with our renowned Shaan. She was offered to play lead roles in TV serials, but Sumedha declined the offers to dedicate herself completely to singing. She started her career as a playback singer when her solo song Chakri from the movie Tahaan became a chartbuster. Now she has done playbacks in six different languages along with two singles.
