Mustaq Hussain is an Indian artist who is predominantly associated with Urdu cinema. He was born in 1878 Sahaswan in Uttar Pradesh, British India. He performs Indian classical music. He is a vocalist. His father Ustad Kallan Khan was also an excellent singer who introduced him to music, when he was only 10. He became a disciple of Ustad Haider Khan and went to Kathmandu, Nepal, with him when he was only 12 years old. Ustad Haider Khan trained him for 2 years. After, that Mushtaq Hussain spent 18 years under the guidance of Inayat Hussain Khan. He performed songs and ghazal in Rampur court when he was thirty-five years old. Later, he became the chief court musician. Also, he started working at AIR (All India Radio). He trained several disciples under him. In 1952, he was the first vocalist who received the Rashtrapati Award. In 1952, he was awarded Sangeet Natak Akademi. In 1957, he was the first Indian classical vocalist who was awarded with the Padma Bhushan. He has performed many songs on All India Radio: "Great Master, Great Music", "Khayal Gunkari", "Khayal and Tarana-Bihag", "Rampur in Sahaswan Gharana", "Classic Gold- Rare Gem", and "Classic Gold". He passed away on 13th August 1964 due to a cardiac arrest, where he was admitted to Irwin Hospital in Delhi.
