Raghunandan Panshikar was born to a Karhade family on March 14, 1963, in Phanaswadi, Mumbai. With roots in the Panshi hamlet in the taluka of Pernem, the Panshikars are a Goan ethnic group. His grandfather is credited with translating the classic manual of Ayurvedic therapy into Marathi. His forefathers were Sanskrit intellectuals. Early on, Panshikar's musical talent was identified and encouraged. He started his formal musical training in Mumbai. Unexpectedly, Kishori Amonkar recognized the young Panshikar's talent as they practiced, and she decided to take him on as a pupil. He acquired his training at the Jaipur Gharana.
Under the guidance of Kishori Aamonkar, Panshikar developed his distinctive style of classical singing that deviated from the conventional Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. Vasantrao Kulkarni, who passed away, taught him music for two years. From the age of 17 and for the following 20–22 years, he received instruction from Kishori Amonkar, the dean of the Jaipur Gharana. Raghunandan had the uncommon good fortune to be led during this time by Mogubai Kurdikar, the mother of Kishori Tai. He is a versatile singer who excels at semi-classical genres like Bhajans, Thumris, Gazals, and Natya Sangeet. Panshikar, a recipient of numerous honors, has established himself via performances not only in Europe, the United States, and the Middle East but also throughout India. Panshikar travels widely throughout India, the USA, Europe, and the Middle East, preserving the legacy and enjoyment of Hindustani music. For his contributions to music, he has received numerous honors and prizes.
