The show addressed the issue of "Pakadua Phaadi" prevalent in some regions of Bihar. Eligible boys from decent families are kidnapped by girls' relatives and made to wed at gun point. Smita plays the role of a mean sister-in-law of the protagonist in the show Bindiya, a middle class girl who is very innocent and suffers neglect and ill-treatment in the family after marriage. The show is based on Bindiya’s struggle to sustain her foothold in the household amongst all the pranks played by her sister-in-law, Smita Singh. The show became an instant hit and was liked immensely by the viewers.

Another popular show to her credit was “ Hitler Didi Hitler Didi which literally means Hitler Sister is >> Read More... ” (2011). Smita loves playing negative roles, but wants to shift her focus from typical Saas Bahu sagas to realistic content which she believes is a better way to connect with audiences. Smita took a break from her career in 2008 when she was diagnosed with skin cancer, but then was back with a bang post recovery.

Smita is very fond of writing and is really passionate about it and wants to start writing very soon. She finds the typical Saas Bahu sagas very boring as she believes that the roles are typical stereotyped and involves the same old story of wearing heavy sarees, jewellery and overdoing of makeup which she feels are unable to connect with the audience. She has an effective way of acting which enables her to emote the feeling of the character she’s playing in a very effective way.
