Shriya Popat

Shriya Popat is an Indian Kathak dancer and actress. Born on 4th November in Mumbai, Maharashtra, she developed a keen interest in the art of Kathak at a young age. She graduated with a Visharad, which is an equivalent of Bachelor of Arts degree, in Kathak from the Mithibai College of Arts Chauhan Institute Of Science And Amrutben Jivanlal College Of Commerce And Economics in Mumbai.

She is presently pursuing her Bhaskar (Master of Arts) in the same. She flaunted her talent on stage for numerous classical music festivals, including the Naadbrahmotsav in New Delhi and Mumbai, Girnar Mahotsav in Junagadh, and Braj Sangeet Academy’s Parampara Utsav. Trained by prodigious Ruchi Sharma, Shriya honed her skills in the Natwari dance form of Kathak, which helped her become a disciple under the wing of the legendary Naad Nritya Yogi, Acharya Pandit Anupam Rai.

She is well-versed in many Jaatis and complicated Taals, along with esoteric Prabandh Panchpadi, Chhand Kavitts, and Ashtpadis. She is as dexterous at acting as at Kathak. She also conducts frequent workshops, imparting her knowledge to Kathak amateurs. In 2015, she made her debut on the small screen as a supporting character in DD National’s soap opera “Jab Jab Bahaar Aaye.” After claiming lauds for her performance in the show, she repeatedly featured in real-life crime dramas of Sony TV’s “Crime Patrol” (2003) and Star TV’s “ Savdhaan India Show Story Coming Soon... >> Read More... ” (2012).

Her most recent contribution was to Sab TV’s inspired sitcom “ Khidki Khidki is a mini-series that aired on SAB TV and w >> Read More... ” (2016), which airs its episodes as mini-series, each based on an actual funny incident that a random person posts on Twitter. Shriya played Padma in the ‘1947 Ki Baat Hai’ set of episodes, which was derived from a real-life incident that happened to Gujarat revolutionary, Prabhakar Pandey. Apart from dancing and acting, Shriya is a dedicated promoter of Indian fabrics and ethnic apparel.
