Akhil Kumar is basically an Indian boxer and a TV actor. He brought fame to the country by winning many tournaments at National and International level. He was born on 27 March, 1981 in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh. He started his career as a boxer and latter he appeared in TV serials. He acted in Asha bhosle’s album “tum vaada to karte ho” as a leading actor. He also participated in Sony channel dance reality show jahalak dikhla jaa season -04.
Kumar started boxing at the age of 13. His first participated in boxing competition was at “state school level boxing” in Haryana. He entered in International boxing arena in the year 1999 and won a Gold medal in 6th Y.M.C.A. Junior International Boxing Championship. In the year 2001, he bagged a Gold medal in International Invitational Boxing Championship held at Russia. He won the gold medal in 2005 Commonwealth Boxing Championship held at Glasgow. Seeing his achievements in International boxing Government of India awarded Arjuna Award in the year 2005.His coach was Gurubaksh singh sandhu.
In 2006 commonwealth games, he was again successful in bringing the gold medal to their home in the bantamweight 54Kg category held at Melbourne. Kumar qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics by beating Worapoj Petchkoom at the Asian boxing qualifying tournament in Bangkok. Due to injury he failed to take part in Asian Continental Olympic tournament, to be held in Astana in April, 2012.
